Teflon Advanced Questions
What others are asking:
- Does Cleaning Remove the TeflonŽ?
Some TeflonŽ Advanced carpet protector is removed from the fiber from heavy
traffic or aggressive cleaning. Some product may also be removed by strong
cleaning agents and chemicals. Check with your supplier to determine which
cleaning agents you may need to avoid. It is generally recommended to
re-apply TeflonŽ Advanced each time the carpet is cleaned.
- What is the difference between the mill applied and after market
products?
The mill applied products are formulated for drying in the high temperature
ovens found in carpet mills, while the home applied products are formulated
to dry at ambient temperatures. Because the mill applied products are
"baked on", they are typically more durable, depending upon the
product. However, TeflonŽ Advanced has good durability and provides
valuable protection against soil and stains.
- How often should protectors be applied?
Since the biggest enemy of the protectors is abrasion from traffic, and
traffic varies with each situation, the general recommendation for
re-application is after each cleaning. The same conditions that led to the
need for cleaning probably have led to the need to refresh the carpet
protection.
- Is TeflonŽ appropriate for all fibers?
Yes, TeflonŽ Advanced provides protection from soil and stains on all types
of carpet fibers. A special formulation of TeflonŽ Advanced carpet
protector has now been developed for use on wool fibers.
- Should TeflonŽ Advanced be raked in?
Yes. After being sprayed on, the best way to assure even distribution and
penetration into the pile is to groom or rake the carpet.
- What about drying time?
Whenever possible the carpet should not be put back into service until dry
to the touch. The length of time will vary depending upon the drying
conditions, but is usually only a few hours.
- Why apply TeflonŽ?
First, because TeflonŽ Advanced Carpet Protector provides a valuable
service for your customers - it keeps the carpet looking good longer. From a
business perspective, TeflonŽ Advanced will improve customer satisfaction
increase profitability on the job. Two very important reasons!
- Can TeflonŽ Advanced be applied to upholstery?
Yes, TeflonŽ Advanced also works on upholstery that is not subject to water
damage as is silk and other more exotic fabrics. TeflonŽ Advanced is
suitable to protect upholstery made from most cotton, nylon, polyester, and
blends of these fibers. But if water damage is a possibility or a concern,
do not apply the product.

Application and Mixing Directions

Teflon Advanced carpet protector is applied after a carpet has been
properly cleaned. It is applied by spray application, dries quickly, and leaves
no odor.
- Use any good quality, clean pressure sprayer, either electric or
hand-operated. Stainless steel or plastic tanks are recommended to prevent
rusting or staining. Use a #8004 Tee Jet nozzle. Spray pressure should not
exceed 60 psi (do not aerosolize or atomize). Teflon Advanced is also
available for in-line sprayers like the Hydro-force* Revolution*. For the
Hydro-force the truckmount should be set at 300 psi and use a #8006 Tee Jet
nozzle.
- Hold the spray nozzle 12 to 18 in from carpet, and apply half the prepared
spray mix over the entire carpet area, spraying in one direction only. Then
apply the other half over the entire carpet area, spraying in the opposite
direction.
 | Be certain to maintain enough spray pressure to ensure a uniform spray
pattern.
 | If the pump tank is fitted with a pressure gauge, do not allow the
pressure to drop below 38 psi.
 | Note: It is extremely important to obtain uniform coverage. Uneven
application may result in uneven soiling. |
| |
- To obtain the best performance from Teflon Advanced, work the product into
the carpet immediately after spraying.
 | Use a pile brush on pile type construction.
 | Use a shag rake for open shag construction. |
|
- Use a damp cloth or sponge to wipe spray from the furniture or woodwork.
Dried solid Teflon Advanced usually can be removed by using a mild detergent
solution.
- Allow the carpet to dry. The soil and stain protection of Teflon Advanced
will be fully effective as soon as the carpet is dry.
